I’m Rachel Ingram (née McCombie) and Cosy Life is my personal blog. I’m a freelance copywriter living a stone’s throw from the Cotswolds with my lovely husband, Lee.

I’ve been self-employed since 2013, and I love the freedom it’s given me. I spend a lot of my time working, but I get to work with some cool brands and, most importantly, I have the flexibility to fit in plenty of adventures around my work. Not only that, but being freelance means I get to work from our cosy cottage – hence the name of my blog!

Flying

Flying is a huge part of my life, and has been ever since I started gliding back in 2007. I’m a qualified private pilot, with a licence to fly light aircraft and motorgliders. My aim is to collect as many licences and ratings as possible and, by blogging about it, hopefully inspire other women to learn to fly – there are far too few of us in aviation! My next mission is to learn to fly helicopters, but for the moment I mostly fly a beautiful Robin DR400, which you’ll see featured on this blog from time to time. My husband is a flying instructor and we love going on airborne adventures together.

Other things that make me happy

Whether I’m at an airfield or exploring the Cotswolds, I’m at my happiest in the English countryside – especially if I have a dog with me. I adore dogs, and although we don’t yet have one of our own, I get my fix of doggy cuddles by volunteering a morning a week as a “puppy socialiser” at Guide Dogs. In fact I love all animals, and I make no secret of the fact that I’m a bit of a birdwatching geek. I guess it goes well with my addiction to Radio 4′s The Archers.

Back in the depths of time I grew up in Somerset and Wiltshire, riding horses, playing the flute, viola and piano, and later singing alto in various Bath-based choirs. At one time I rehearsed in eight different music groups a week, and I’m still partial to classical music, in particular Mozart, Rachmaninov, Brahms and Elgar.

Studying Classical Archaeology and Ancient History at Oxford University gave me a life-long love of Rome. I love travel in general, and I always like to have several trips booked throughout the year. Iceland and America have become firm favourites, but we mix travelling to places we love with discovering new destinations. The rest of the time, when I’m not copywriting or flying, I’ll probably be found in the kitchen or curled up with a good book.

I hope you enjoy browsing my blog! All the photos on it are taken by me on my iPhone 6S or Olympus Pen E-PL8; please ask if you’d like to use any of them. Finally, don’t forget to go to any page (apart from this one) and enter your email address to receive my latest posts to your inbox, and feel free to contact me if there’s anything you’d like me to write about.
